UA&P and Some Alarming figures

The scarcity of schools, classrooms and funding have already made a huge dent in the education of Filipinos all over the country. According to a study done by the NSCB (National Statistical Coordination Board as of 2005), out of the 6,312,031 students enrolled in elementary and highschool only 2,402,315 actually enter college. The 2,402,315 students do not even represent the actual number who get to finish college. These are alarming numbers indeed! But these numbers are only the tip of the iceberg.

Think about this. The government appropriates only P106,050,025 for the Philippine educational system which is distributed to the three educational branches namely DECS (for basic education), CHED (for higher education), and TESDA (for vocational Education) to fund their respective programs.

This is the ultimate shocker...

P106,050,025 is only equal to the 1st to 4th year education of 230 students from UA&P, Ateneo or La Salle. Two hundred thirty! After learning about this, I felt a cringe in my stomach. I was humbled by these numbers... Aren’t you?

There are a lot of kids who dream of finishing college. However, the lack of resources that many Filipino families experience hinder them from reaching this dream. It is nice to know that schools like Dualtech give underprivileged students the opportunity to finish college and give them a better life. Dualtech may not be able to send 6 million kids to college, but they are trying to make a difference in their own little way. Let us all follow the lead of Dualtech and try to contribute in our own little ways. It wouldn’t hurt to give right?

This is really a serious problem and the government should start doing something about it. 230 students?! unbelievable!

wow! so where the heck is the pork barrel. Imagine the ZTE contract. If they put the money that they would have got on education, then more students would have learned!

Anonymous responded on February 16, 2008 at 9:13 PM #

i agree. that is a very alarming number. kinda makes you wonder where money from our taxes go. tsk tsk

Anonymous responded on February 17, 2008 at 4:26 AM #

it's a shame how our money is corrupted in expense of improving the caliber of the Philippine educational system. kudos to dualtech for exerting efforts to improve our country.

everybody is concerned about their figure nowadays...diet here, fitness first there, etc.

but what you posted is the real figures that everyone should pay attention to. government, especially, should do something about it.

When will our system ever change guys? i feel for our country. But, it's good that dualtech is trying to make a difference even in its own special way. As the old saying goes it only takes a spark to start a fire.

Anonymous responded on February 17, 2008 at 1:51 PM #

Anonymous responded on February 17, 2008 at 2:15 PM #

230 students?! well.....if we think about it....one order of starbucks is already one whole day's budget for some of our countrymen...

it's really shocking, this huge gap between the rich and the poor.

your site has been bringing up really obvious points. it seems however that people today would rather just turn a blind-eye when it comes to topics such as lack of funds for education. it is a major problem and it's sad to acknowledge that it is not only the Philippines that it is happening to. It's good to know there are institutions out there like Dualtech that care enough to do something about it.

hope your site brings more awareness to others.
